Observation Tower
This 230-foot overlook provides the only U.S. location to view both the American and Horseshoe Falls, and it provides the only panoramic view of all three Niagara Falls. High-speed elevators provide access to the Gorge and boarding area for the Maid of the Mist.
The elevator and viewing deck are open to all visitors ($1.25 fee). Boat ticket purchase is not required.
Extending out dramatically over Niagara Gorge, the architectural wonder of the Niagara Falls USA Prospect Point Observation Tower affords unobstructed views of the wild cascades of Niagara Falls, as well as the raging whitewater below.Elevators at the Observation Tower provide access to the base of the gorge and the boarding site for the Maid of the Mist boat tour. For a multi-sensory view of the American Falls, visitors can go to the base of the gorge and climb a series of stairs to the Crow’s Nest, where the views come with complimentary air conditioning and blasts of misty Niagara spray.
Bird watching is also a popular pastime at the Niagara Falls Observation Tower. Bird enthusiasts have the opportunity to spot peregrine falcons, bald eagles and the many different gull species present in the Niagara Gorge, which has officially been designated an Audubon Important Bird Area (IBA).

Observation Tower Overview
The Niagara Falls Observation Tower, also known as the Prospect Point Observation Tower, is an iconic structure on the U.S. side of Niagara Falls. It offers visitors breathtaking panoramic views of the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Horseshoe Falls. Standing 282 feet (86 meters) tall, the tower extends out over the Niagara Gorge, providing an excellent vantage point to appreciate the grandeur of the falls and the surrounding landscape. The observation deck is accessible by elevator, and from here, visitors can enjoy the scenery, take photographs, and watch the mesmerizing flow of the falls.
Visitor Experience
Visitors begin their journey by entering the tower at the base of the gorge. An elevator takes them up to the observation deck, which extends out over the Niagara River, providing unobstructed views of all three waterfalls. On a clear day, you can see for miles, including the Rainbow Bridge and parts of the Canadian side. The tower also offers a unique perspective at night when the falls are illuminated with colorful lights. During the winter months, the frozen falls and surrounding ice formations create a magical winter wonderland. The observation deck is also a great spot for bird watching, as the area is home to various species of birds, including peregrine falcons.
Hiking at the Bottom of the Observation Tower
The Maid of the Mist boat tours also depart from the base of the Observation Tower, making it a convenient starting point for this iconic Niagara Falls experience. After taking the elevator down from the observation deck, visitors can follow the signs to the Maid of the Mist boarding area. History of the Observation Tower
The current Niagara Falls Observation Tower was constructed in 1961 and is made of aluminum, glass, and steel. It replaced an earlier wooden structure that had been in place since the late 19th century. The tower has undergone several renovations and improvements over the years to enhance the visitor experience and ensure safety. In 2001, a significant renovation project included the installation of new elevators, updated railings, and improved accessibility features.
